ATAGI recommends a 2023 COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for adults in the following groups, if their last COVID-19 dose or confirmed infection (whichever is the most recent) was 6 months ago or longer:
- All adults aged 65 or over
- Adults aged 18-64 years who have a medical condition which may increase risk of severe infection
All adults aged 18-64 should consider a booster dose.
Why do I need to consider a booster?
The emergence of new sub variants, means that protection from previous vaccination may be reduced.
Receiving a booster dose prior to winter aims to minimise the risk of severe infection and reduce hospitalisation.
